About the role

As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth running of Dogpatch Labs. You will be a key figure for the Dogpatch Labs team and its community of 80+ startups and 400+ members and the thousands of visitors that come to Dogpatch each year. You will be a key driver in improving the operational processes and efficiencies for a scaling world class start-up hub.

The role is broad, as Dogpatch is always evolving in terms of physical space, programmes and other offerings. As the Operations Manager, you will be a strong generalist. You will work collaboratively with various teams in Dogpatch to ensure a great member, partner and event experience for all the community.

Core Responsibilities

  • Community - Working collaboratively with membership manager to ensure a great member experience in Dogpatch; covering everything from physical space, services and generally ensuring a productive and world class working environment.
  • Events - Working with the Events Manager & Associate to ensure the smooth operation and delivery of large and small events which occur every week in Dogpatch
  • Finance - Working with the finance team to ensure that appropriate budgets and cash flow management for facilities, ordering, raising PO’s and tracking spend
  • Project Management - Leading multiple projects from start to completion often with tight deadlines e.g. building new private offices, expansion into new locations, upgrading space & interior fit out.
  • Management - Manage your operations team of 1-2 members, lead regular meetings and communications. You will be supported by the Dogpatch HR team as a manager.

Day to Day Responsibilities

Including, but not limited to:

  • Creating, implementing and maintaining policies and processes covering a range of areas such as access control, security, fire alarm, IT, cleaning etc
  • Ensure health & safety procedures are followed and include staff training such as manual handling, fire safety and first aid
  • Establish contracts and pricing and ensuring proper maintenance and serving as primary liaison with utilities and local government agencies, such as fire, police, health and safety agencies
  • Communications to community members in relation to operational matters that would affect them e.g. Opening / Closing hours, Internet etc.
  • Be a point of contact for daily maintenance issues as required
  • Liaising with contractors to ensure that maintenance works are completed and reports are file
  • Coordinate office moves and team relocation plans

Must Haves

  • 7+ years relevant experience
  • Comfortable prioritising multiple work streams across daily responsibilities and long-term projects
  • Project management skills/experience in driving projects forward, managing budgets/costs
  • Performs well under pressure and is confident in handling change and decision making
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; proven ability to collaborate
  • Must be team oriented; enjoys working with colleagues at all levels of the organisation. Culture is really important to us and we make sure the team dynamic is strengthened with every hire

  • Ability to understand strategy and interpret it from an operations perspective
  • Having managed a small team, acted as a mentor or supported the development of another member of your team
